Gov. Mike Beebe is asking state lawmakers to approve a 2 percent pay raise for all state employees.

Beebe said the budget forecast is looking better than originally expected. He said he thinks state workers deserve a pay hike.

When asked if he thinks the Legislature will approve, Beebe said he is "cautiously optimistic."

Last year, he asked for a 1.86 percent cost of living adjustment but dropped it to make up for tax cuts that the Legislature wanted instead.
