Gun Issues on Minds of Arkansas Lawmakers

A state legislator plans to reignite efforts to pass a law allowing staff to carry guns on college campuses.
Representative Charlie Collins introduced the bill last session, but it didn't make it out of committee.
The bill would allow faculty and staff with concealed carry licenses to bring weapons on campus.
Collins said he plans to re-engage the legislation, but not until after the nation has had a chance to mourn.
On the national level, Arkansas' newest congressman is weighing in on the gun debate.
In Camden on Monday, fourth district congressman-elect Tom Cotton said he will defend the second amendment in Washington.
Cotton also spoke of the importance of mental health in this debate.
"The laws that are on the books are respectful of all our citizens' second amendment rights, which they always must be, but we need to ensure that people who are truly mentally ill don't have access to this kind of weaponry," Cotton said.
The soon-to-be congressman said he opposes any new restrictions on guns.
