The Yell County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) is investigating a house fire last week that killed a man and his father.

The man's mother was able to escape the flames and was flown to Little Rock for treatment.

It happened near the town of Onyx on Thursday night around 10 o'clock.

The YCSO says the remains of two people, believed to be Steven Halsell, 35, and his father, Dewey Halsell, 69, were recovered from the debris early Friday morning. They were taken to the State Crime Lab for autopsy and identification.

Lynda Halsell, 62, was found in a wooded area just west of the residence soon after fire crews arrived on the scene. She was suffering from minor burns and smoke inhalation, the YCSO says.

Yell County Chief Deputy John Foster says the home was completely destroyed by the fire and although its cause is still unknown, investigators do not suspect foul play.
