They say donations drop this time of year and are asking for donors.
Sunday (12/16) the Red Cross tells us the majority of their beds were empty and without a schedule of donor appointments they could possibly encounter a shortage of necessary blood units.
They say every year the focus of their usual donors switch from giving blood to giving gifts for Christmas.
"The patients in hospitals relying on blood donors, that are going to use these very precious products, they need them now," said Program Manager for the American Red Cross, Alan Gibson. "They don't get to take a break and this may save a life and give somebody another holiday time with their loved one."
