A Little Rock-based non-profit group kicked off its ambitious campaign Thursday morning to raise $3.8 million to build a center for homeless children.

Our House announced it can get 70 percent of the money from a foundation grant but needs to raise $1.1 million by April 2013 to move the project forward.

Their plans include building an 18,500-square-foot center that can accommodate 142 children.

The organization's director said during a news conference that demand is so high and their current spaces so limited that the non-profit has to sometimes turn away needy families that walk through its doors.
