Kids who don't get enough sleep may be at an increased risk for becoming overweight. A new study found kids who got less than nine hours of sleep a night, gained weight, regardless of gender or race. On the flip side, every additional hour of sleep in the 3rd grade resulted in a 40 percent decrease in a child's risk of being overweight in the 6th grade.
Besides the risk of being overweight, a lack of sleep also makes kids moody and prevents them from being alert and ready to learn in school.
