Medicaid Cuts Could Impact Thousands of Arkansas Women Who Work in Healthcare

Thousands of Arkansas women who work in Medicaid-supported healthcare jobs could lose their positions if Congress fails to come up with a budget to avoid the so-called "fiscal cliff."
That's according to a new analysis by the Washington, D.C.-based National Women's Law Center.
For Arkansas nurse Catrina Hugg, the specter of possible cuts is a sign of the times.
"It's always been--go into the healthcare profession, you'll never have to worry---but times have changed now," Hugg said.
According to a news release from NWLC, "in Arkansas, Medicaid supports 33,497 health-sector jobs held by women and it supports nearly three million of these jobs nationwide."
Hugg, who works as a hospice nurse, says she and her colleagues these days are always concerned about losing their jobs.
She said she expects to see cuts in Medicaid given the political climate on Capitol Hill.
Congress has until Dec. 31 to reach a deal before across-the-board cuts in federal spending go into effect.
