Only in Arkansas: Shopping for Locally-made Products

We all know the benefit of shopping locally this holiday season, but you can take it a step further by buying gifts made in Arkansas that are eco-friendly too.

From soap made in Hot Springs to jelly from McRae, shoppers come to  the Green Corner Store in Little Rock to buy gifts with a purpose.

"They're always trying to give gifts that are more thoughtful," said owner Shelley Green.  "And this is the best way to do it."

"They want something that's local and different," said Amanda Martin, owner of Jelly Madness.

Her product line is taking off.  Her secret- all local ingredients.

"We just go out to local farms and pick all the produce that goes into our product," said Martin.

Even little ones can get in on the "local" trend, from wooden toys carved from Arkansas wood and baby booties made from recycled wool to the now trendy cloth diapers for eco-conscience moms, all made right here in Arkansas.

"We do different diapering products and baby-wearing, and I try to carry as many locally made products and possible also," said Natural Bambino owner Rebecca Taylor.

At the store you'll see a focus on sustainability.  Dozens of Arkansas craftsmen and artisans are making toys, jewelry, clothing.. all sorts of things out of what some would consider trash.

"We want to have things that are repurposed, recycled, reclaimed from the landfill, and they've done that in amazing ways," said Green.

It's a truly Arkansas shopping experience, helping the local economy and the environment.

Next door to the Green Corner Store, the 4th annual tree-lighting ceremony at the Bernice Art Garden continues until 8pm tonight, December 6th, at the corner of 14th and Main Street in Little Rock. Shop for locally-made products, sip cocoa, and help decorate the Christmas tree.
