Level Three Sex Offender Arrested in Van Buren

The Van Buren Police Department has arrested a Level 3 sex offender for failing to register.

Brian Cecil Lester, 27, had been living in the 1200 block of Chestnut Street for about one month but had not contacted law enforcement about his move, according to reports.

Lester was convicted in December 2011 of Internet Stalking of a Child when he met an undercover officer who was posing as a 15-year-old girl in an online chat room.

Police said he contacted the police department's sex offender coordinator in November advising that he was being evicted from his current residence and moving to the address on Chestnut. The coordinator told Lester that he couldn't live there because it was within 2,000 feet of a school, park, daycare or youth center.

Police say Lester chose to move there anyway and was subsequently arrested Monday morning.

Lester was booked into the Crawford County Detention Center with no bond.

A Level 3 sex offender is considered to have a high risk of re-offending.
