A ceremony was held at the Inland Maritime Museum honoring the five Sullivan brothers, who enlisted in the Navy and were all killed when their ship was hit by a torpedo during the battle of Guadalcanal.
The Sullivan brothers are survived only by Albert's granddaughter Kelly Ann, who attended the ceremony on Monday, passing on the importance of remembering World War II history.
"I teach third grade, and on Veterans Day each year we watch the movie The Fighting Sullivans," she says. "I'm a sponsor of a Navy ship, the USS Sullivan, which its homeport is in Mayport, Florida and so my students write letters to the veterans and thank them for their service all the time."
Former Congressman Vic Snyder and former North Little Rock Mayor Patrick Hays attended Monday's event as well as a man who attended basic training with the Sullivan brothers.
