Since the advent of photography people have taken pictures of ghosts.
Some are easily disproven, others still raise question marks.
Either way, according to a new poll 1/3 of Americans believe in ghosts.
"People are more open-minded now, people are more accepting in the past decades people didn't talk about such things.”
Mindy Hunter is an investigator for the Arkansas Paranormal Research Association.
A hobby which some say is slightly out of the mainstream.
"Everybody is entitled to their opinion,” she says, “It's interesting to me, it's fun."
About one-quarter of Americans claim to have actually seen a ghost including Hunter.
"It was on a bright sun-shiny day,” she said, “And I saw it clear as day."
Just ten years old, Hunter says she was in bed when she thought she heard her mother coming down the hallway.
"I started to get out bed and i said mom! I went out and this lady was going into my mother's room and she turned and looked at men. Then it just sort of dissipated. It scared me at the time... I didn't talk about it for 15 years."
But Hunter finally met some people who shared similar experiences.
Now she investigates local hauntings. She and her colleagues conduct series of tests at different sights which includes testing for changes in temperature and watching for unexplained light.
A few times she says she's spotted things out of the ordinary which can be intense.
"Split second I’ll be afraid... then i go to see why I'm afraid," she says.
Hunter says her experience as a child is what drives her to look for answers as an investigator.
“We don't charge for anything... We spend a lot of money... But we don't charge for anything!"
