Giving Tree for Thousands of Homeless Students in PCSSD

There are more than 1-thousand homeless students in the Pulaski County School District, who show up and make the grade, even though what tomorrow holds may be unclear.

But as this special time of year approaches, there is a tree, with a lot of little angels on it, hoping you make their Christmas bright.

Christmas music, bows and wreaths all signs Christmas is near.

However, hundreds of students in the school district won't wake up to presents.

That's why the Giving Tree has been put up, at the administration building, with an ornament displaying only a child's size and whether or not he or she is male or female.

"These names on this tree represent children that parents are either ill, have lost work, single parent home and children who have lots of pride, said Home School Consultant, Laura Montgomery."

The community is invited to drop off presents, preferably a coat, pants and one fun present.

"They will pick a name from the tree and they will go out and buy gifts, added Montgomery."

Holiday treats for students that would otherwise go without.

"We have roughly 960 plus identified homeless students, said Dr. Brenda Bowles, Assistant Superintendent."

However with your help, these students can have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

A signal to Laura Montgomery that the community still has a great big heart.
