The Little Rock Police Department is investigating after $20,000 worth of sculptures were stolen from a downtown park.

The thefts in Riverfront Park off East La Harpe Blvd. were discovered Friday morning by a Little Rock Parks & Recreation Department employee.

The bronze statues missing from the Vogel Schwartz Sculpture Garden include the following:
  • "Conversation with Myself," a two-part piece, of which the smaller portion, a long-legged man looking up, was forcefully removed by apparently moving the piece back and forth until the metal broke in the area of the ankle. The section is about two feet tall.
  • "Birds of Happiness," depicts two storks in flight. It is about three feet tall. It appeared to have been removed by a grinder and the base was still in place.
  • "Uptown Saturday Night," is a woman dancer about one foot tall. It was removed by grinding the mounting bolts off from the bottom of the sculpture with the artwork remaining intact.
Police suspect the pieces might have been taken to a scrap yard.
