Fire destroyed a Mayflower home Sunday, leaving a family with just the clothes on their back.

Still, they say all is not lost.

"You never think it's going to be your house," said Nichole Abernathy.

High School sweethearts Darrin and Nichole Abernathy now stand in front of charred ruins.

There's little left of the dream home they'd just moved into this year.

On the way home from church, Sunday morning they received terrible news.

"My daughter-in-law called me and told me our house was on fire," Abernathy said.

It was only by chance their younger daughter wasn't inside.

"Our 13 year old didn't want to go to church, because she had a stomachache but we said 'no, you didn't go last week, so you are going.' I am glad we made her go to church," said Abernathy.

The fire consumed the home and everything inside.

"All I had is what I wore to church," she said.

But the couple says they aren't losing faith.

"It's the only thing we have," said Darrin Abernathy.

Instead, they're still counting their blessings.

"It's thanksgiving and we are thankful. It's just a house and it can be rebuilt," said Nichole.

The Abernathys are thankful for neighbors who have already given them clothes, toothbrushes and food.

The exact cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
