An engineer has told the Bryant Police Department that a teenager hit by a train and killed on Monday afternoon, jumped in front of the locomotive.

The engineer said the 17-year-old boy, whose name is not being released, crouched in bushes next to the track west of Reynolds Road then stepped onto the tracks facing the train, according to Bryant Police.

It happened just before 2:45.

The Union Pacific Railroad called the Bryant Police Department after the accident involving a train headed east on the north tracks. The engineer said they applied their emergency brakes immediately when they saw the boy.

Police and rescue crews responded to the area between Reynolds Road and S. Cherry St. and began a search of the railroad tracks.

The victim was found about a half-mile west of Reynolds Road. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Saline County Coroner.
