Students at Maumelle High School giving back in a big way today.

Red Cross was on the campus all day today for a blood drive.

Donations are low as hurricane sandy has forced the cancellation of more than 300 blood drives in 14 states along the east coast.

Students lent a hand today to help in the efforts to get the shelves back stocked, said Family Consumer Science Teacher, Brittany Gilbert.

"Well it makes them feel important, when they are involved they feel needed, they know that they are doing a big thing."

Dozens of students signed up and they even moved to a back up list.

A lot of students volunteered to help during the drive as well.
