4 the Greater Good: ECS Animal Care Organization

It's not everyday you see kindergarteners and high school seniors sharing something in common. But a group of local students of all ages is making it their mission to help homeless pets.
Towels, blankets and pet food are piling up at Episcopal Collegiate School in Little Rock.
"I really care about animals," said student Madison Moody.
Once a month students take their gathered food and supplies to an area animal shelter.
"When they hear the news stories about animals in need, they want to take action," said ESC Art Director Joy Schultz. "They want to help. So I said lets start an organization. Let's make it happen."
The animal care organization on campus is taking off, getting students young and old involved in the cause- from learning how to promote and support shelters to working to toughen spay and neuter laws.
"We're just trying to educate our students on how we can take better care of the unwanted pets and the overpopulation in animal shelters," said Schultz.
Right now the group is hard at work on their latest project- a Holiday Pet Parade in the Heights on November 11th.
"It'd be really cute just to have your dog walk around in a costume," said Moody.
Students have created special artwork that will be sold at the event.
"We have dog, cat, bird and rabbit pins," one student showed us. "We're going to sell those too."
They've also designed t-shirts with the words "Love, Honor, Respect" on the front. All the proceeds will go to local shelters.
Schultz said, "This is a great way to teach them very early on how to take good care of animals. They're our responsibility and we need to take care of them."
The group will be set up in front on Browning's beginning at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, November 11th. Registration is $5.
The parade will begin at 2pm, and the winners will be chosen by local merchants.
You can drop off donations of pet food (Purina is preferred) and used blankets and towels.
T-shirts will be on sale for $12. Artwork and gourmet dog treats will also be available for purchase.
You'll also have the chance to meet several pets up for adoption from local shelters.
