The family of a Razorbacks football player who died last year is pledging $100,000 to a scholarship in his name.

The Garrett Uekman Memorial Athletic Scholarship is about something bigger than football, it's about a young man who put his heart and soul into the Razorbacks, and making a difference for another young athlete to carry on Garrett's legacy.

Almost one year ago, family and friends mourned the loss of 19-year-old Garrett Uekman, the Razorbacks tight end who died of an enlarged heart, a condition he didn't even know he had. His death served as a reminder that there are no guarantees in life.

The young man who proudly wore number 88 would be pleased to know another aspiring football player will get a boost up, as $100,000 was pledged to establish the Garrett Uekman Memorial Athletic Scholarship.

Uekman only played in nine games during his short time with the Razorbacks, but if you ask his family and friends about his legacy, they'll tell you he was living his dream, and that he loved everything about Razorbacks football.

Just 11 months ago, an Arkansas family lost a loved one and the Razorbacks lost a dedicated team member, but Monday's announcement guarantees the memory of Garrett Uekman will not be forgotten.

All student athletes will be eligible for the recognition, but preference will be given to football players.
