Attorney General Dustin McDaniel announced today that agents from his office's Cyber Crimes Unit arrested George Alan Haile, 56, on suspicion of 20 counts of distributing, possessing or viewing matter depicting sexually explicit conduct involving a child.
Haile was arrested at the Union County Detention Center, where he had been held since his arrest by Union County law enforcement on September 10. That arrest occurred subsequent to the execution of a search warrant by agents from the Attorney General's Office at Haile's residence, 2195 O'Rear Road, El Dorado. Authorities at that time took Haile into custody on charges of failing to register as a sex offender.
Haile was being held on $50,000 bond on the child pornography counts.
"We intend to demonstrate in court that this suspect repeatedly used the Internet to exploit our most vulnerable citizens, our children," McDaniel said. "Those who would engage in this type of criminal activity should be warned that our office and other law enforcement agencies across the state will aggressively investigate these crimes."
Agents from the Attorney General's Office seized a laptop computer from Haile's residence. Multiple images of child pornography were found on the computer and other electronic evidence during a forensic analysis of the evidence at the Cyber Crimes Unit Forensic Lab in Little Rock.
Special Agent Chad Meli of the Attorney General's Office began investigating Haile in August after suspecting that child pornography was being possessed at Haile's residence.
