The Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs has unveiled its ambitious plans to double the number of internment sites at its North Little Rock cemetery.

Crews are already building six new above ground interment sites for veterans who are cremated, but bigger plans are in the works to add 4,800 internment sites, said Cemetery Administrator Bill Wussick.

The VA is in the early stages of seeking a $4.4 million grant from the federal government to do this expansion project, which Wussick said is necessary to meet the future demand for more burial plots
.
If the agency gets this grant, Wussick said crews might be able to begin work in the Summer of 2013.

When it is finished, the cemetery's internment sites will total more 9,000.

What they really mean is they need another way to scam the veterans and this is the newest version 4.4 million to line their own pockets, try and get a burial allowance through the VA see what kind mess and endless miles of red tape you go through. One of my brothers who was a Vietnam Era veteran passed away a few years ago, his own family had to come up with the money and it sure as hell wasn't through collections either. His own [censored] greedy former boss wouldn't even help out.

When will people learn? When I worked at ADVA we helped raise the money to expand existing Federal Veterans Cemetaries...and the money to renovate the Arkansas Veterans Home. Subsequent administrations created new State cemetaries, and built another Veterans Home...perhaps TWO more...and expand the State facility? FIRST fix what is broken, second assure it doesn't break again...THEN carefully consider expansion. History is a great teacher.
