The Cabot School District wants parents to pay up.

This week the district sent home a letter with students saying parents owed more than $20,000 for unpaid meals.

The letter says it's illegal for the district to extend credit to students and their families, but they also won't let kids go hungry, and it's their policy to feed them even if they can't pay.

Some parents with kids in the district say it's simple: if your child eats school lunch, pay for it.

"I'm sorry. I have four kids and you either make them a lunch or you pay for their lunch, you just do it. It's just part of it. You budget it in and you take care of it," says parent Leah Davis.

"It's not the kid's fault. If the parents aren't giving the children money, or they're not on top of paying...what's due, what are you going to do? You can't just let the kids go without eating," says parent Josh Davis.

The district says they'll be giving an "alternative meals" to students who owe more than $10 beginning on Monday.
