On Monday, Rogers Police received a report that Pamela H. Nelson, 57, a teacher at the Benton County School of the Arts, had hit a male student in the back.
After an investigation the Springdale woman was arrested and charged with Second Degree Battery.
The school's superintendent, Dr. Paul Hines, said he recommended the board terminate the Nelson's contract. This recommendation was based on facts and evidence, according to Hines. He said they talked to everyone involved in the situation, including witnesses. He also reported documenting a mark on the student's back.
The board met on Tuesday evening and approved the decision. This was Nelson's first year at the school, where she taught middle school choir and keyboarding.
Nelson was being held on $5,000 bond at the Benton County Jail until late this morning when she bonded out.
