Courtney Speer turned herself in this morning and was booked into the Saline County Jail on $20,000 bond.
She is scheduled to appear in court on November 13th.
Original story (October 2):
A former Bryant school teacher is under investigation for allegedly having sex with a student. She is facing charges in that city, as well as Benton, where she lives, police say.
Bryant Police say investigators were notified by School Resource Officers of an alleged sexual assault that happened in Benton.
Courtney Speer, 30, who resigned as a 9th Grade English teacher for the Bryant School District on Monday, is accused of having sexual relations with a 17-year-old boy, also from Bryant.
Bryant Police say the student gave statements to investigators that he had been a student of Speer's when he was in the 9th grade. He said his first sexual encounter with her occurred at the Bryant High School parking lot inside her vehicle in June, where he had sexual intercourse with her. He told investigators that this happened on four different occasions in the school parking lot.
Benton Police have issued a warrant Speer on two counts of sexual assault, stemming from two instances of sexual contact that are believed to have occurred at her home in Benton as well.
Speer was supposed to meet with investigators this afternoon but has since retained an attorney. She is now scheduled to turn herself in at the Saline County Jail in the morning where she will be charged with four felony counts of sexual assault and two felony counts of sexual assault from the Benton Police Department.
