Qualifying families with students in LRSD schools can buy a computer from the program for $40. They must complete an application and register for the event through their child's school by Wednesday, October 3.
To be eligible for a computer, Internet service or both, a family's LRSD student must be receiving free or reduced-price school meals. Additionally, the family must be without a computer or Internet service.
Computers will be distributed for $40 dollars each and internet service provided for under $10 a month, plus tax.
This morning at the LRSD Distance Learning Center-Metropolitan Career-Technical Center on Scott Hamilton Drive, students were busy refurbishing computers donated for the program.
The computers will be distributed on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Henderson Middle School Gym, 401 John Barrow Road.
A family that has benefited from the program also shared how they've been using their new technology.
The LRSD says the Computer Power Day program's mission is to put the power of technology in the hands of students who wouldn't normally have access because technology is a powerful tool for closing the achievement gap.
