Garland Co. Detention Center Employee Charged with 39 Counts of Animal Cruelty

The owner of a house that caught fire Monday morning, killing 28 cats and injuring 11 others, has been charged with 39 counts of animal cruelty.

According to the Garland County Sheriff's Department, David Smith, an employee at the Garland County Detention Center, turned himself in on Wednesday after a warrant was filed for his arrest.

Smith is charged with 39 misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals, and was released from jail on a $1,000 bond.

If he's a hoarder and hasn't been diagnosed he needs help, not acriminal charges.
