Pine Bluff Mayor Carl Redus has requested a judge delay the mayoral election until 2014, citing a 1965 law regarding cities with populations of fewer than 50,000. In the 2010 Census, Pine Bluff fell below that benchmark.

Martin's filing claims a more recent law, approved in 1967, makes Redus' argument invalid and asks the judge to dismiss Redus' suit.

A special judge has been appointed to handle the case. Sixth Judicial Circuit Judge Jay Moody will preside, because all of the circuit judges that would have presided recused themselves from the case.
