Frederick Owens, 30, was convicted of aggravated assault on August 20th, but there wasn't bed space for him in prison. He was placed on an Arkansas Department of Corrections waiting list at Prairie County Jail.

But on the day he was sentenced, he was released from jail, according to Prairie County Detention officials.

On Monday, Prairie County Sheriff Gary Burnett declined to tell KARK why Owens was released.

However, a detention employee told KARK the jail was overcrowded, just like the state prison.

Owens is currently being held in Prairie County Jail as a person of interest in the stabbing death of Donovan Buck over the weekend.

He will be questioned by Arkansas State Police, but he has not been named a suspect.

i want to know where the naacp, noble, the little rock black police officers assoc, jesse jackson, al sharpton, and everyother black person who wants to scream and shout about civil rights, isnt this the same as treyvon martin, not to these people because it is a black man killing a white man, i dont see them having a march and rally in his memory, why because they only want to shout and scream about civil rights when it suits them other wise they dont care about anyone but themselves and something that they think is worth getting their picture on the news

Hmmmm so sheriff Burnett chose to keep someone that was sitting off misdemeanor fines , because they got behind and regardless the fact that they just found work and could start paying those fines(now they have lost the job by being in jail)......He saw them as a bigger threat than someone with not just aggravated assault charges but according to the facts had been found guilty and was awaiting ADC placement?????? Mr Burnett I hope you can live with the blood that you have on your hands now. Seriously PC Jail is got not just serious flaws but it reeks of corruption. Internal affairs needs to come in and clean house all the way starting with the sheriff, and deputy Holmes... all the way down to the men that call themselves cops and are not abiding by the oath they took serve and protect!
