Tropical Depression Isaac is to blame for tearing up an iconic structure in downtown Little Rock.

Strong winds ripped the blue spire that crowns the amphitheater along the Riverfront.

It happened once before this summer the week before Riverfest was about to kick off.

Crews will have the amphitheater spire fixed by next week, says Diana McClung, Director of Riverfront Operations for the Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau.

McClung says the CVB already had plans in the works to replace the canopy with a more permanent fixture. The canvas spires have outlived their durability, she says.

The amphitheater was built in 1988. It is home to big name musical acts, the summer Movies in the Park series, charity drives, and numerous community events.

McClung says the new, permanent roof should be in place by Spring 2013.
