"They found them underneath the 89th bridge in Mayflower," said volunteer Lydia Grier. "Today they're six days old."
Abandoned new born puppies just some of the animals recovering at the Faulkner County S.P.C.A. at the hands of humans.
"That's all we do is cruelty cases," said Grier.
Working completely on donations and grants a handful of volunteers here host drives asking for money from the community to help pay for the care that gets these abused animals back to health, but lately there's been reports of a person not with the shelter asking for donations.
"We're not sure what's going on," said Grier. "At first I thought it was a misunderstanding and didn't get too upset but now it seems to be occurying more often."
The latest happened Saturday in ward, but at least a dozen other times have been reported in the past six months.
And it's always the same description, a woman in her 40's with long black hair goes door-to-door asking for money.
A real volunteer would have identification and paperwork showing they're legitimate.
"Gives all our information, our name, our address," said Grier.
Maybe proof that animal lovers are easy targets for such a scam, volunteers continue to have the safety of animals as their main focus when considering this person's possible motivation.
"If they need food for their animals or medical care," said Grier. "If they come to us we can at least try and help or find another group that is willing to help."
They have no way of knowing how much money this person has colllected, how much money taken away from these poor abused puppies.
The imposter should beware, a complaint of charity fraud has already been filed with the attorney general's office.
