They broke out the backpacks at Clinton Elementary in Sherwood Friday, all packed with the good stuff students need, all donated by Arkansas Office Products.

Company President Steven Pawloski says helping homeless students is their way of giving back.

"Nothing better to support your community, than kids," Pawloski said. "Kids are the future. If you can give back, then help them along the way, maybe they'll grow up and do the same for kids coming down the road."

Clinton Elementary Home School Counselor Erika Mitchell says they'll all be put to good use, when about 200 kids come by the school tonight to pick up free supplies.

"I've returned about 50 phone calls today, all needing something," Mitchell said.

Dr. Brenda Bowles, assistant superintendent of people services in the Pulaski County Special School District, says their homeless student population is at an all-time high- 1,184.

Kids living in cars, or at a relative's house, or sleeping under a new roof every couple of weeks.

"It's a lot more prevalent than people realize," Bowles said.
