Update (August 13):
The teenager who died in this incident has been identified as Bobby Moore, 15, of Little Rock. Police say he was behind the wheel of a stolen 2011 Honda Civic.

Original story (August 12):
Police are not releasing the identities of any of the juveniles involved in an early Sunday morning shooting.

A mother at the scene told KARK she was told the victim was her son, by everyone but police.

"I'm the momma," said Sylvia Perkins, "I need to know something -- they need to tell me something," she says.

Police were called to the Shadow Lake Apartments off West Markham just after five o'clock Sunday morning.

According to police, two people were seen breaking in to parked cars.

The two then jumped into a waiting car with another teen already behind the wheel. All allegedly tried to get away by driving toward the officers, according to police.

That's when they said one of the officers opened fire.

"Got a call at 5 this morning," said Starkeshia Perkins. "Saying the police killed my little cousin."

Family gathered at the scene told KARK the victim is Bobby Moore, 15.

"He was only 15 years old," said Perkins, "You shot him three times in the chest then you don't give my aunt any answers?"

Dozens of family members and friends waited for hours Sunday. They said no one let them know what was happening.

"If my son is back there dead," said Perkins, "let me know something."

The other two juveniles in the car during the shooting ran away but were arrested a short time later and charged with breaking and entering an automobile.

Police also said the car they were in was reported stolen two days ago.

Moore's mother said she isn't trying to say her son was perfect.

"It's a child," said Perkins. "It's a 15 year old child. I don't care what he was out here doing."

As is the department's policy, the officer involved in the shooting, Officer Josh Hastings, 26, is on administrative leave pending the completion of the investigation.

and people dont deserve to be robbed so if it takes killing a few lowlife scumbags to make a point then so be it

Stealing a car is not a death penalty, ignorance is not a death penalty, how can you place the value of a car over human life? who thinks like this?

"It's a child," said Perkins. "It's a 15 year old child. I don't care what he was out here doing." THIS was taken way out of context, they did'nt post the FULL conversation. She did'nt say it as if she didnt "care" what he was doing, she was speaking on the fact of him being 15 years old and the police not giving her answers as to why he was shot 3 times in the chest. CERTAINLY more answers are due as to why the bullets were in the side windows and not in FRONT if the car was actually heading for the officers head on. ANY so called human being who puts the value of material possesions over the life of a human being certainly need to re-evaluate their thinking. I'd rather have my car stolen which can be replaced that someones life taken.

at least now he wont be able to steal someone elses car who actually worked and paid their bills

I soley blame the parents for this (or single mother) what is a 15 year old kid doing out on the streets, in a stolen car, with a hand gun, booze, 2 other young boys at 5 AM.

No .. we are not taking the mother's statement out of context. Yes it's a shame that someone so young didn't have a parent to teach them the difference between right an wrong. He was involved with a stolen car, trying to break into another car, and alochol was reported to be involved. The true victim here is the Police Officer that had to fire his weapon to save himself. Look at the facts and you would realize these three young adults were already involved with a stolen vehicle how many other times will their rap sheet show they had been in trouble.

Many of y'all are taking the mom's comments out of context. I'd say that as his mother she certainly deserved to know the truth quickly and compassionately, regardless of what her son was doing. Let's not forget we're talking about a life cut very short at a horribly young age. This is a boy who may have turned into a powerfully influential young man if someone had just stepped up and been a positive male role model for him. Is he a victim? Of course not. Is it tragic? Absolutely. Is his mom a victim? Depends on the definition, but yeah %u2013 not a victim of the police of course, but certainly of the circumstances. "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose." (Rom 8:28 ESV) I don't understand how, but God will find a way to make this have a positive outcome in some way.

As others have said,if someone HAD cared what he was doing this story would be unnecessary

"It's a child," said Perkins. "It's a 15 year old child. I don't care what he was out here doing. " This attitude is exactley why so many children are running the streets comitting crimes.. because the parent doesn't care what he or she is doing

Let's see, driving a stolen car, in the process of committing another felony, assaulting an officer with a 3000# deadly weapon. Yep, he's a victim.

You have to ask yourselves what would you do... If you saw a car coming at you knowing chances are your going to get hit/ run over.. Im willing to bet your not going to let it run over you.

From the article: "It's a child," said Perkins. "It's a 15 year old child. I don't care what he was out here doing. " I don't mean to sound calous, but M(r)s Perkins -- if you did care, he would likely still be alive today.

It's terrible this happened, but it's the result of him and his friends breaking the law.
