Long Bros. Oil Cited, Fined 3 Months After Oil Rig Explosion

Nearly three months after three south Arkansas men lost their lives in an El Dorado oil rig explosion, the investigation is complete and citations have been issued.

Long Brothers Oil Company has been cited by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for not doing any prior testing or purging to eliminate hazards associated with flammable liquids and vapors before work was done on the tanks.

OSHA claims the lack of testing led to those employees being exposed to hazards including flash fires and smoke inhalation.

Long Brothers Oil was also cited for not properly training its employees to do maintenance, repair or demolition of oil tanks and recognizing unsafe conditions.

The citations mean that the company will be responsible for paying $4,800 in penalties.
