Most of us, in our lifetimes will know someone with cancer. While their battles can be heartbreaking, their courage is often inspiring.

In Thursday night's inspiration story, KARK 4's Brittney Johnson takes us along her family's journey, helping her grandmother fight Multiple Myeloma.

Vera Bell went from being a vibrant 65-year-old, working two jobs to spending every morning at the Cancer Institute, often with her oldest granddaughter by her side.

"I hope my veins are OK," she said in the hospital waiting room.

From the moment she was diagnosed, the family became a team,  the goal, beating granny's  cancer.

"She said, it's bone cancer, she said it's very rare," said Bell. "I was feeling tired all the time, I couldn't eat, I was losing so much weight."

The family watched her life become a series of doctor's visits and rounds of chemotherapy. But no matter how weak her body became, her faith remained strong.

"I prayed about it a lot. I just asked the Lord to bring me through it," said Bell.

After four months of treatment, her cancer went from covering 94 percent of her body 0.

"I said my prayers have been answered. I knew I was going to make it, I knew I was going to make it through," said Bell.

While Bell is in remission, she visits the hospital for weekly maintenance checks to make sure she's healthy. The family says it's an ongoing battle, but right now, she's winning.
