What to Watch: Olympics Day 2

By: Matthew Kitchen, NBC Olympics
Updated: July 29, 2012
Two American favorites make their debuts Sunday when the Hoops team squares off against France and the girls jump and twirl in the gym. Those and three more big events are what we're watching on Day 2.

Women's Gymnastics Qualifying - All-around favorites Jordyn Wieber and Gabby Douglas lead a team of five Olympic newcomers onto the mats in London. Vaults by McKayla Maroney will be the highlight, but the girls are strong on all four apparatuses and are expected to win gold over Russia and Romania.

U.S. Men's Basketball - USA Hoops, led by LeBron James and Kevin Durant, have made short work of most preliminary opponents. They shouldn't have an issue with France, either, who starts four NBA players including 2007 Finals MVP Tony Parker, but will be missing Chicago Bulls star Joakim Noah.

Men's 4x100m freestyle - Remember when Jason Lezak out touched the French to keep Michael Phelps aiming for eight golds in Beijing? We expect this race to be just as exciting in London, with the added bonus that Australia, the 2011 world champs, will make the race even tougher for the jawing rivals.

Women's Skeet shooting - Kim Rhode looks to become the first American ever to win five medals in five consecutive Games when she's loads up at the Royal Artillery Barracks Sunday. She took gold in Atlanta and Athens, but London is her first Games with a new gun. Her previous one was stolen follow Beijing.

Women's Road Cycling - The exciting story of Evelyn Stevens continues Sunday when the Wall St. trader turned Olympic cyclist leads the U.S on a ride through London. She's not the favorite - that honor goes to Dutch cyclist Marriane Vos, who Stevens beat at the Flche Wallonne in Belgium. We hope Stevens surprises her again, Sunday.
