We recently reported shelves at the Salvation Army's food bank in Little Rock were were almost empty.  Since then donations have been coming in.  Not just from businesses, but also from individuals just like you.  One family showed us how they're doing their part to help out.

You could say giving to others runs in this family. Margaret Newton and her two teenage children have been making trips to the Salvation Army, dropping off hundreds of dollars worth of groceries.

Newton said, "It's something I saw my mother do when we were growing up, and I wanted to instill in my children to give back."

"It's easy to do it, and it's fun," said her daughter, Claire.

The Newtons don't want recognition, only the chance to show others how simple it is to make a difference.

It's been a challenge keeping the shelves at the Salvation Army's food bank full during the busy summer months.  Last month alone some 200 families were served, thanks to your donations.

"Just a big thank you to the community," said Major Alan Hill.  "We can't do it without you. That's what it's all about.."

And as the Newtons know, it is the giver who often receives the most. "It's such a joy for me to see my family, my children, give to others," said Newton. "It blesses me. It blesses us to give."

The Salvation Army in Little Rock continues to ask for these donations:
  • Canned Meat
  • Canned Vegetables
  • Milk (boxed, non-refrigerated)
  • Ready-to-eat meals (mac & cheese, canned soups, raviolis, etc.)
  • Diabetic specific meals
  • Dried rice and beans
  • Bread
  • Cereal
  • Diapers
  • Personal Hygiene Products
