Police said earlier today that 14 had died but have revised that number to 12.
Original story (4:50 a.m.):
14 people are dead and at least 50 are hurt after a shooting at a movie theater during the midnight showing of the new Batman film "Dark Knight Rises" in Aurora, Colorado, a suburb of Denver.
According to officers, a man suspected of carrying out the attack was taken into custody.
The heavily armed suspect, who was wearing a bulletproof vest, was apprehended by police in a parking lot at the theater. That's according to a police spokesman.
The identity of the suspect has not immediately been released.
Of the wounded, at least 20 were being treated at the University of Colorado Hospital, said spokeswoman Jacque Montgomery. All of the wounded suffered from gunshot wounds, which ranged from minor to critical, she said.
