One in two men and one in three women will be diagnosed with some form of cancer.

That's why a lot of people are passionate about finding a cure.

One of those Arkansas communities is Maumelle.

Because of such dedication, the town of 17,000, has been asked to play host to the American Cancer Society's Cancer Prevention Study - 3 - Registration.

Maumelle was chosen last year as a national Relay For Life event, which brings in thousands of survivors and supporters.

Sherri Jones, with the American Cancer Society in Little Rock says, with that in mind the organization felt Maumelle could pull those same numbers for the registration.

"Just because of the amount of people that come out and support in that particular area.  So they are a small community, but very community minded."

Researchers say they already know how smoking and obesity causes cancer.

So for this study, they will look at lifestyle, environment and genetics of those that live in Maumelle, over the course of 30 years.

They need 300,000 participants from all across the nation and will take the same evaluations.
