Health Services Van to Make Stops in Nine Arkansas Cities

The van will be dedicated July 24th at a special event that kicks off a week-long promotional tour.
This first stop will be in Amity for recognition of the city's Olds Foundation, which made a $25,000 gift last October. Also recognized during the ceremony will be the $300,000 pledge by the St. Joseph's Mercy Volunteer Auxiliary and other donors and Mercy co-workers whose generosity made it possible.
At present, the best defense against breast cancer is early detection and there are no fixed mammography services in Grant, Pike and Montgomery counties. Clark County has the third highest incidence rate of breast cancer in Arkansas, while Grant County has one of the state's lowest numbers of physicians (2.9 per 10,000). And Montgomery County has one of the highest percentage of female residents 40 years and older (53.1 percent). This lack of access puts these women at a higher risk of late-stage breast cancer and death.
We're bringing these services directly to the communities we serve. Developed to make mammogram screenings more accessible, the 40-feet-long Mercy Mobile Health Services Van will travel to rural locations to assist medically underserved women in south central Arkansas. It will become one of only five mobile units in the state, and the only unit to serve Garland, Saline, Clark, Montgomery and Pike Counties. The van not only offers convenience, but also offers women all the privacy they would expect if they were able to travel to a doctor's office.
The van features the latest technology, including digital mammography. And it will be compatible with Mercy Hospital Hot Springs' electronic health record. The 10-wheeler has intake and consult areas as well as an imaging suite. It is also wheelchair accessible.
The public is invited to tour the van and the latest technology and ask questions of the staff during a tour of the region. The van will be at the following locations:
