Director of Branding Communications, Alan Dranow said he and his staff prepared for the party. "We're welcoming visitors, balloons. We've got cake!" Dranow added "We are just doing what we always do. That's welcoming visitors from all over the globe to learn the story of Walmart."
It's hard to believe that Sam Walton began his business with four family members at the Five and Dime and now the retail giant employees more than 2 million people worldwide.
Folks at the Five and Dime shop said even though Walmart is known around the globe, the legacy of Mr. Walton still hits home in Northwest Arkansas.
One man we talked to said Walmart is more than just a store to him. "It means a lot, 50 years of Walmart culture and being in this area certainly means a lot to myself and my family, of course." Dranow wants folks to know that even though this is a big anniversary, Walmart is still going strong. "It's important to know that we've been doing it for 50 yaers and what's more important is to know that we're going to be doing it and serving them for the next 50 years."
