Sponsors say they have gotten permission to have fireworks at the end of the festival, which is now in its 29th year in downtown Little Rock. A licensed shooter will be on hand, as well as firefighters, and the fireworks will be shot over the Arkansas River.
Pops on the River will feature more activities and expanded hours this year with family friendly activities beginning at noon in the River Market. Gates to the Riverfest Amphitheater will open at 5:30pm. Entertainment begins at 6:30pm, including the "Oh Say! Can You Sing?" contest and the Happy Tymes Jazz Band.
The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra will take the stage at 8:30pm, with the fireworks display, shot off the Main Street Bridge, set to begin at 9:30pm. The event is free to the public.
