Group Very Close to Getting Casinos on Arkansas Ballot

By: KNWA-TV, Fayetteville
Updated: June 28, 2012
A group hoping to bring casinos to Arkansas is close to getting the issue on the ballot.

Nancy Todd's Poker Palace has been gathering signatures in hopes of putting the topic to a vote.

They need 73,000 signatures by July 6 in order for that to happen, and Thursday, June 28 the group announced it has more than 70,000.

Nancy Todd says they're now making a final push to reach their goal in order to put the issue up for a vote in November.

Todd's supporters say casinos could bring more jobs to the Natural State.

But many are against the idea, saying gambling would do more harm than good in Arkansas.

We need casinos in Arkansas...I am driving 3 hours today to spend 2 days in Tunica, MS for the holiday...Arkansas would have been my first choice. Every month I take my money out of state...Mississippi, or Oklahoma...I'd love to keep it in state...
