Petition Sent to Governor Asking for Intervention in PCSSD "Crisis"

By: KARK 4 News

Members of two teacher unions whose contracts were recently terminated by the Pulaski County Special School District sent a petition to Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe asking him to intervene in what they're calling a "crisis."

According to the Pulaski Association of Classroom Teachers (PACT) and the Pulaski Association of Support Staff (PASS) mailed a petition with more than 1,500 signatures.

The petition asks that Beebe reinstate the union contracts and order negotiations to continue with both unions.

Governor Beebe is currently in France, but can end this crisis, from there, with a phone call. If he orders resumption of negotiations, as the petition requests, he will be the hero of the day, and history will reflect that fact. This would also help his own political party for decades to come. This isn't just about the PCSSD; such an act from the Gov. Beebe would also avoid the need for very expensive court action, starting soon, (action which would not be necessary if these illegal actions had not been taken against legally-recognized unions and their contracts in the first place). Gov. Beebe has a golden opportunity to save an enormous amount of taxpayer money with one simple, easy act -- with no consequences for himself, whatsoever, but many benefits for the entire state, for we all pay taxes. The telephone number of his office is 501-682-2345. I ask all concerned citizens of this state to call the Office of the Governor, and ask him to order resumption of negotiations in good faith in the PCSSD. Please call his office as soon as you can.

I've heard every excuse they can come up with, but it all boils down to an attempt to get rid of our unions. The district wastes more money than anyone could possibly imagine. The district has no concern or respect for legal binding contracts, the law or court decisions. They proceed on spending the tax payers money. Enough is enough. Let us do our jobs and do it honorably. This county will pay Dr. Guess a half a million dollars for 2 years of employment. Why do all these people come here to get rich? Because they can... Until someone stands up and says NO MORE!.

The efforts being undertaken right now by the PCSSD to destroy the faculty at these schools is criminal. The PCSSD are trying to distract the public away from their financial mismanagement of these valuable community resources. Punishing the faculty who are spending their time and effort in educating our youth. All the while the PCSSD are lining their pockets and undermining the both the education system and the tax-payer.
