At the Arkansas Lottery Commission Oversight Committee meeting this morning, state lawmakers serving on that committee got a look at the hard numbers.
The state's scholarship program is relatively new (just two years old), and so is the data.
It was revealed that some of the students lost their scholarships because they didn't get their paperwork done. However, the majority of them, didn't keep up their grades.
"So we're trying to work with the institutions to ensure they are working with the students trying to identify them early on in the semester to see if they are in trouble or didn't enroll in enough hours," said Interim Higher Education Department Director Shane Broadway.
Arkansas awarded 109-million dollars in scholarships this year. Of the more than 11-thousand students who won those scholarships, about four-thousand lost them.
Broadway also told the panel six-percent more traditional students were awarded scholarships this year, compared to 2011.
