Arkansas Sheriff's Offices Debut Smartphone Apps

Two Arkansas sheriff's offices want citizens to know there's a smartphone app for their agencies.
Jefferson County and Garland County have launched apps that allow the offices to communicate much more effectively with their communities.
Both are available by free download for Android smart devices, with a version for the iPhone coming soon.

Users of the apps will have access to real-time detention center information, plus lists of non-custodial parents and most-wanted criminals. The sheriff's offices will also be able to send news and alerts directly to users' smartphone - notifying them about anything from bank robberies and missing persons to escapes, weather warnings and more.
The most beneficial and significant feature of the app is that it lets the agencies get important information right to people's fingertips and greatly improves their ability to serve the public.
The app is also fully integrated with the victim notification service, VINE (Victim Information and Notification Everyday).
"We know that more and more people are getting the information they need from their smartphones," say the sheriff's offices. "We want to ensure we're utilizing the latest communication technology to keep the public informed and this app lets us do just that."
Also this week, the Baxter County Sheriff's Office announced the launch of its mobile website designed specifically for smartphone and mobile device users.
The mobile site is compatible with virtually all phones and mobile devices including Blackberry, iPhone, Windows phone, Android phone, iPad, and other types of tablets.
To access the mobile law enforcement site, type the web address of the Sheriff's Office (www.baxtercountysheriff.com) using the smartphone or tablet's internet browser. Because the mobile site uses mainly text, with the option to download images and graphics, the site displays quickly and saves on data plans.
