Two State Hospital Employees Fired for Failing to Monitor Patients

The State Department of Human Services confirms two employees have been fired from the Arkansas State Hospital Psychiatric Facility.

According to a DHS spokesperson, the hospital aides were terminated after a female patient reported she had been raped by a male patient at the facility on April 30, 2012.

The employees, according to DHS, failed to follow patient monitoring policies.

Three lower level staff were also disciplined to a lesser degree.

The case files have been turned over to the Pulaski County Prosecuting Attorney.

DHS is currently working to compile a "root cause analysis" report, defining where the breakdown occurred and what policy changes need to be implemented.
