A patriotic organization known as Carry the Load is bringing a Memorial Day message to Arkansas.

Carry the Load is a walk across the country to honor and thank members of the military, law enforcement, firefighters and their families for the sacrifices they make.

The group, which highlights the meaning of Memorial Day across America by walking from town to town, was co-founded in Dallas, Texas last year by Little Rock native Clint Bruce, a U.S. Naval Academy graduate, veteran, and former SEAL.

The journey began May 1st on the East Coast and walkers arrived in Arkansas on Monday.

Today's walk began in Palestine and travels down Highway 70 into Little Rock today and Hot Springs tonight before continuing on to Texarkana by May 24th.

Chad Cochran, who is in the U.S. Army Reserve is joining the walk in North Little Rock at six o'clock tonight and his family will join him somewhere along the way to Hot Springs, where Bruce joins the walk after flying in from Dallas.

Participants are encouraged to make a donation to help the wounded and the families of the fallen. Some will choose to carry weighted packs as a symbol of their commitment. It's a challenge to carry the load for others, to carry more than you think you can, further than you think you can.

Carry the Load's mission is to highlight the meaning of Memorial Day across America, ultimately driving attention and steering resources towards existing non-profit organizations already supporting veteran families and veteran organizations.
