Caddo Valley Mayor Allan Dillavou fired police chief Duane Baucom Saturday.
Sunday, Mayor
Dillavou told KARK he called Baucom into a meeting around 4:00 p.m. Saturday.
He declined to say specifically why Baucom was let go.
"Chief Baucom was a very fine man; it was a very difficult decision to make," Mayor Dillavou said.
Tuesday, police officers there told city leaders
they had no confidence in their chief.
In a letter written to
the city council, every Caddo Valley police officer in the force
presented a vote of no confidence.
The letter, signed by all five police officers cited
different examples of behavior the officers thought the city should
hold the chief accountable for.
During Tuesday's City Council
meeting, the members did enter into executive session but not action
was taken.
Chief Baucom told KARK last week he had a meeting with the
officers Wednesday night and the impression left by the officers was
that everything was settled.
Mayor Dillavou told KARK Sunday the former chief did not show any animosity as he left his post.
Baucom
did not return our attempts to contact him Sunday. His phone
number went straight to voicemail.
The Mayor says the chief post will be filled soon, likely by Tuesday. He says they have formed a search committee and they currently have five candidates.
