Another Error on Faulkner County Primary Ballot

Another error on the Faulkner County primary ballot.

In this case an entire race, California Township Constable, was completely omitted from the ballot. Last week, KARK 4 News reported a mistake in the State Senate District 15 primary, where Representative Ed Garner's title was completely omitted.

Faulkner County Clerk Melinda Reynolds told KARK 4 News she wasn't going to talk about the error, but said it was an issue for Frank Shaw, chairman of the county election commission.

Shaw says about a half dozen voters were affected by the omission of the California Township race, and all were mailed paper ballots. He also said paper ballots would be available at all voting sites.

"In my opinion... every voter who had a right to vote in those elections will have that right and their vote will be counted," Shaw said.

Reynolds is running for re-election; her opponent, Conway Alderman Mark Vaught, says people will make mistakes, but errors on the ballot can have huge implications.

"We're already into our second week of early voting and seen two errors in local elections. I find that unacceptable, and I'm sure the other races and candidates involved probably find it unacceptable as well," Vaught said.

KARK 4 News also learned an election proclamation, submitted by the Faulkner County Board of Election Commissioners and printed in the Log Cabin Democrat, contained several errors.

The notice omitted the names of Republican Presidential Primary candidates Mitt Romney and Ron Paul, as well as the title of Representative Ed Garner in the State Senate District 15 race.

The California Township Constable election was included, but the name of Republican county judge candidate Marvin Lessmann was misspelled.

Comments

When it comes to ballots and voting, all ballots should be proof-read by someone (or a few people) who only has a list of names and check to make sure all names are on the ballot and spelled correctly. To me this is unaceptalbe (sp?) when dealing with the government- federal - state - county - city - it doesn't matter. Proofreading is very important.
