A Camden Fairview High School teacher is jailed on a sexual assault charge after police say he had a physical relationship with a student.

Camden Police say Cody Lee Martin, 28, was arrested today following an investigation that started on April 27th.

The case was investigated by the Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children Division.

Martin was taken to court for a hearing today and is being held on $50,000 bond.

Camden Police say the investigation is not yet complete.

For those of you out there that do not believe what Martin has been accused of, let me assure you that he is, in fact, guilty. As someone who has been in his classes and on one of his FFA judging teams for four years, I know that he has done what he's been accused of. Nearly everyone at the high school has heard of Martin's affairs with students, and certainly everyone in Ag has heard. What I find hard to believe is that the faculty never heard these rumors in the six years that he has worked for the Camden Fairview school district. Why did nobody ever contact the child abuse hotline, as they are required by law to do after hearing about relations between a teacher and a student? Whoever is running this investigation should be investigating not only Martin but also the teachers at this school and find out why they didn't report it sooner.

It's no secret that a lot of this kind of inappropriate behavior between teachers and students is going on today. A lot of it goes unreported because the students fear that adults won't believe them. Just because the accused is supposedly an upstanding citizen doesn't make the child's accusations false. I myself really hope that Cody didn't do this, but IF he did he should be punished accordingly and the student commended for being brave enough to come forward. Anyone who is looking at this situation as if it's the young lady's fault is a huge part of the problem and the main reason why kid's don't tell when this sort of thing happens to them. Shame on you and you should stop to think, 'what IF this were my child?' Before any of us pass judgement on the child or the teacher, let's allow the investigation and judicial process to run it's course. The truth will come out and the guilty shall get what's coming to them.

Certainly this man should be viewed as innocent until evidence proves otherwise. On the other hand, there is an appalling rash of this kind of thing in our schools lately, including lap dancing, possible molestation/abuse in primary schools, and [censored] assault in one form or another. Why aren't the Governor, the Legislature, the Dept of Education, politicians campaigning for office, the media, AND ESPECIALLY the parents in this state demanding a full-scale investigation of what's going on and taking serious actions to stop it? If this is indeed a false charge, similar actions to stop it should be taken. As a grandparent of 5 and a retired educator, I'm just stunned by the weekly (and sometimes more frequent) incidents that are reported from elementary schools all the way through our universities. We seem to have reached epidemic proportions, and a lot of questions need to be asked about the increase in charges. Perhaps some allegations are untrue (and if they are untrue, they are still an unfortunate sign of what's brewing in our schools), but I suspect there's even more going on that we never hear about because people do not come forward. It's a scary situation.

Personally, I am so angry at the ignorance that has been displayed by this whole situation. The fact that kids can say he or she looked at me funny and ruin a good persons life just like that is rediculous. And frankly I'm so tired of the kids controlling the school. All it takes is an alligation obviously. The dog needs to be wagging the tail, not vice-versa. My prayers are with Cody and his family and I hope that he is able to conquer this. I'm very disgusted in the fact that people are doubting this teacher when they really need to be checking out the deal with this chick that has the problem in the first place...
