The
University of Central Arkansas Bears will take on the UALR Trojans on
Tuesday night as part of the State Farm Arkansas Classic at North Little
Rock's Dickey-Stephens
Park.
The
event will be a doubleheader among in-state teams, beginning with an
Arkansas State-UAPB matchup at 3:30, followed by UCA-UALR at 7 p.m.
"We're
excited about being a part of this night,' said UCA head coach Allen
Gum. "It will be exciting for our players and fans to get to play at a
place like Dickey-Stephens
Park. We're certainly looking forward to it.'
The
Bears are coming off a 2-1 series victory over Northwestern State on
Sunday at Bear Stadium. UCA has won all five of its home series against
Southland Conference competition
this season and stands 20-23 overall and 14-13 in conference play. The
Bears are in fifth place in the SLC with two three-game series remaining
at Stephen F. Austin and at home against league-leader Sam Houston
State.
UALR
is 23-24 overall and 10-14 in the Sun Belt Conference. Both teams have
individuals ranked nationally. UCA junior right fielder Forrestt Allday
is fourth in the nation in
walks with a school-record 49 and is fifth in on-base percentage at
.523. UALR's Shawn Bignall is tied for first in the nation with 17 home
runs, while the Bears have only 16 as a team. The Trojans have 55 home
runs on the season.
UCA
sophomore Jonathan Davis, the 2011 SLC Freshman of the Year, injured
his left wrist on Saturday and will be limited this week. He is the
Bears' second-leading hitter at
.333, is second in runs scored (35) and leads the team in stolen bases
(17).
